The film's narrative has been based around this idea of video games and different levels to attract the audience of teenagers. This is linked by the ideas of different levels of the dream where they try to complete inception or of the memories of Cobb's wife Mal in his dreams.
How does the film portray male trauma and anxiety?
The film portray the male trauma through the character of Leonardo DiCarpio's which is Dom Cobb which him losing his wife is his trauma which is most likely to change him as a person and the fact that he was blamed for his wife's death would have made this time even harder for him. The male anxiety is also from Cobb as his projection of his wife has put people at risk which at the end is the reason why Fischer dies and he couldn't shoot her to stop her.
How does the non-linear narrative in the film create meaning for the spectator?
The complexity of the narrative makes the spectator very engaged with the film as they can't miss anything as it could be something very important to the narrative. This creates meaning for spectators of this film as it makes it very clear at the end that it all pieces together and makes sense. The ending is also very open which means it can reflect the narrative of a dream you don't know how it started you just are there and then some times you don't know what to think at the end. In a dream you may loose grip on reality which is why they have totems which helps them figure what is real and what isn't.
